Description

'After two years of pleading, I was able to convince them that A Woman's Face would make a good picture...so please do not blame me for When Ladies Meet.'

TLS, two pages, 6.5 x 10.5, personal letterhead, October 31, 1941. Crawford takes a fan to task. In part: 'I did not realize, Sally, that I had to report to you, or any other fan who believes everything she reads in print. If everyone became as insistent, inquisitive, and such a 'doubting Thomas' as you...Did it ever occur to you that I have no choice in the selection of my pictures? I have a job, the same as you...After two years of pleading, I was able to convince them that A Woman's Face would make a good picture...so please do not blame me for When Ladies Meet. I, too, hope that I will get some good pictures in the future. No one tries harder than I do, I'm quite sure.' After her signature, Crawford adds the handwritten postscript: 'P.S. I'm sure I'm not to blame if the State of California saw fit to change Brentwood to West Los Angeles California last year - J.C.' Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition, with scattered creasing, toning, folds, with one fold touching a letter of the signature. RRAuction COA.
