Description

'I feel tired and frustrated and sad...What I should do is go to the dessert [sic] and try to forget the whole thing there.'

ALS signed 'Brownie,' one page both sides, 7.25 x 10.5, Hampshire House letterhead, no date. Letter to friend Brian Aherne. In full, 'I was very touched by your letter. Thank you ever so much. It was the way i felt too. I don't know anymore what is going to happen. The last painter left yesterday. How he could have taken that time for my small apartment shall remain a mystery to me. And there are many colors also. But I have been a bit ill ever since you left. Got a cold and can't shake it off. I feel tired and frustrated and sad. My things from Calif. are all piled up in the living room in dust and filth. And I can't start anything until i feel better. Dr. Lasslo called me today. Eleanor knows who he is, and told me to go to Dr. Kling., the man you went to. But I feel there also the way you do. So I don't have to explain that. What I should do is go to the dessert [sic] and try to forget the whole thing there. But perhaps the cold will go away now I am staying in and trying not to smoke, which is very difficult. Hope my next note to you will be more cheerful. If you find my spelling funny, it is not meant to be funny, it is the way I spell, La Vie! Million thanks again for your letter, and I shall see if I can do something to follow that. I send my love to you and your family. Perhaps I shall see you all very soon. Allah knows, I don't.' Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Garbo's hand, postmarked January 15, 1954. In fine condition. Originally acquired from the personal collection of Brian and Eleanor Aherne.
