Confederate general who distinguished himself at Bull Run, Fredericksburg, and Chickamauga. ALS, one page, 5 x 8, March 29, 1895. Letter to a gentleman. In full, 'Answering your inquiry I will say that the narrowest escape during the Civil War was at the Wilderness on the 6th of May 1864 when shot through the throat and right shoulder.' Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Longstreet's hand. In fine condition, with light overall toning and tape reinforcement to folds on reverse. RRAuction COA.
