Rare document signed by England's Lord Protector

English soldier and statesman who led Parliamentary forces in the English Civil War, waged war against Scotland and Ireland and was installed as Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland in 1653. Vellum DS, one page, 11.25 x 7.25, October 15, 1633. Document appointing Edward Solomon as 'Colonel of that regiment of Foote...raised under my command for the service of the Commonwealth.' Solomon is further informed that it his duty to follow, 'directions as you shall from time to time receive from myself and...officials of the Army according to the discipline of war.' Nicely signed at the conclusion, 'O. Cromwell.' In good condition, with some toning, heavier in folds, scattered soiling and a small pinhole to center at intersection of creases.
