Description

Football coach. Rockne not only made Notre Dame the country's leading football center but also revolutionized football theory. He stressed offense, developed the precision backfield or Notre Dame shift, perfected line play, and developed many stars, including the most famous backfield of all time, the 'Four Horsemen of Notre Dame.' He died in a plane crash in 1931. TLS signed 'K. K. Rockne,' one page, 8.5 x 11, University of Notre Dame Athletic Association letterhead, October 3, 1929. Letter to a lecture promoter. In part, 'I will not be able to lecture for several years to come as my regular work is taking entirely too much of my time and the President of the University has put his foot down on all the traveling I have been doing.'
