Description

TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, Metropolitan letterhead, July 18, 1917. In 1916, Roosevelt had signed a contract with The Metropolitan magazine to furnish it with a monthly article on any topic he chose. This letter was written on his personal "Office of Theodore Roosevelt" stationery. In full: 'Dear Van: I at once sent Mr. Hodges the photograph with the inscription. I always wish to see you, and I wish to see you now, but I don't wish to give you the bother of coming to New York. If, however, you ever do come to New York, will you let me know in advance?' Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, with the Metropolitan return address on the reverse. In fine condition, with vertical fold through one letter of the signature, stray ink spots due to premature folding, edge toning, scattered faint creasing and faint clip impression to upper left.
