Description

American soldier who, as a major general of federal troops, suffered defeat by Indians near Fort Wayne in 1791 and resigned in 1792. First governor of Northwest Territory 1787 - 1802; removed from his governorship by Jefferson for criticism of congressional legislation creating the state of Ohio. DS, signed 'Ar. St. Clair,' one page, 13 x 4.25, July 12, 1772. Document summoning Jacob Creiter to appear in court to answer a charge of trespassing brought by Edward Armstrong, signed at the bottom by St. Clair. In very good condition, with scattered toning and soiling, a few small separations at edge, several vertical folds and a few creases. RRAuction COA.
