Returned to Germany in 1930 at Hitler's request that he organize and train the SA. In just three years the SA were transformed from street fighters into a two million strong combat unit. Hitler and Rohm disagreed over the SA's role in Germany's future, with Hitler wanting to incorporate the SA into the Army, while Rohm wanted them to remain separate under his command. Alleging that Rohm was conspiring with the SA to overthrow him, he was arrested on June 30, 1934, and Rohm along with 85 of his followers were summarily executed.
