Group lot of five Civil War papers includes: 11 x 9 document entitled 'The Squirrel Hunter's Discharge' wherein it is stated that 'Cincinnati was menaced by the enemies of the Union...Governor of Ohio called on the Minute Men of the State and the Squirrel Hunters came by thousands to the rescue...' One letter written in 1862 from Cincinnati to a Union soldier describes the Squirrel Hunters' defense of the city. The letter writer is also upset because Kirby Smith's Army is advancing on Cincinnati while General Buell is engaged with other matters at the luxurious Brown Hotel iin Louisville Kentucky; also included are two Honorable Discharges for members of the Ohio National Guard; and, an official letter of recognition to a Squirrel Hunter. In overall fine condition, with expected age toning and handling wear. RRAuction COA.
