Description

'As recent articles have made painfully clear to me, the recipe of Jean Seberg and Paris (even Versailles!) has just about come to a wavering end.'

Perhaps best remembered for her role in Jean-Luc Godard's seminal New Wave film, Breathless (1959) Seberg was found dead from a barbiturate overdose in a Paris suburb in 1979, a probable suicide. Her support of the Black Panther movement attracted the attention of the FBI, leading some to speculate that this may have contributed to her decision to take her life. ALS signed 'Jean,' one page, 7.25 x 10, The Sherry-Netherland, New York, New York letterhead, Sunday. In part: 'I've read it, laughed, teared up - and don't think I should do it! As recent articles have made painfully clear to me, the recipe of Jean Seberg and Paris (even Versailles!) has just about come to a wavering end. I still have Irwin and Bob's film coming out and that, too, is France and me, and I'm really worried that these old ones have already jeopardized it's chances, much less this lovely thing of yours. But I don't want to let it pass so blithely. I'll be at the Georgetown Inn for a month, then back again and eager to discuss it all.' She adds 'P.S. My man's at the Savoy Hilton." Accompanied by an unsigned photo of the actress. In fine condition, with scattered light creasing, adhesive residue at the top border from a previous mounting. RRAuction COA.
