ALS as vice president to Secretary of the Navy Toucey, signed 'John C. Breckinridge,' one page, 6.5 x 7.75, Lexington, Ky, October 6, 1860. In part: 'I have heard that Wm. Le Haley [?] of Wilmington City is to receive the appointment of Chaplain in the Navy, and having had the pleasure of knowing him for some time, I venture to recommend him as a gentleman of virtue and uncommon intelligence. I believe he has seen a good deal at sea, and is familiar with the character of seamen. If a vacancy exists, I beg to present him earnestly for favorable consideration.'
