Inventor and philanthropist. Cooper invented the washing machine and built the first American locomotive. ALS, two pages on two adjoining lightly lined sheets, 5 x 8, New York, July 28, 1863. In part: 'Yours of the 24th is received. I called immediately upon Mr. Barnum and asked for the information you desired. He said he would be very glad to unite with gentlemen in Boston and fit out a vessel for the purpose. I gave him your address and he promised to write to you the next day. This is my only apology for not having answered your letter at once, as I should have done. Regretting that he did not communicate with you as he promised to do.' Accompanied by an image of Cooper. In fine condition, with a small tear to the right border, scattered light creasing, pin hole to top center border. RRAuction COA.
