TLS, one page, 8 x 10, New York Police Department letterhead, March 10, 1897. Roosevelt writes to a hopeful political appointee. In part, 'You certainly must get the endorsement of Mr. Platt if you wish an appointment from new York for the Consulate Service. I am sorry to say I have not the slightest idea how to advise you. Those consulships are almost always given for political reasons.' In very good condition, with light toning and soiling, expected folds and a small clipped photo affixed to lower left corner.
