Mexican general and politician. Santa Anna is one of the most interesting figures in Mexican political history, having been president - dictator of Mexico some ten times during his career. He is best known in the US for his slaughter of many Americans at the Alamo. LS in Spanish, signed 'Ant. Lopes Santa Anna,' one page, 8.75 x 13.5, Army of Eastern Operations, Commander In Chief letterhead, May 11, 1827. Instructions to the Commanding General in the State of Puebla. In full, 'Please see fit to immediately gather 200 pack mules in your city or carts that can carry loads of those mules, keeping them at the disposition of General Lino Jose Alcorta, Chief of Staff of that State. Take the mules from wherever you find them to serve the greater good of the Nation. Also see fit to command that shelter be prepared for 4,500 men who should arrive in your city today or tomorrow.'
