Legal document signed four times by Alexander Hamilton

The first secretary of the treasury, helped to stabilize our nation's finances, became a bitter enemy of Aaron Burr and was killed by him in a duel in 1804. DS, signed 'Hamilton, Attorney for the Defendant,' twice and 'Alexander Hamilton his Attorney,' twice, one page, 8 x 12.5, 1784. Handwritten legal document, written in Hamilton's hand, while a practicing lawyer and member of the Continental Congress. A plea submitted to the Mayor's Court against charges brought by John Butler, 'the said John Aspinwall by Alexander Hamilton his Attorney comes and defends the force and injury...and says that he is not guilty of the premise above laid to his charge the said John Butler above complains against him.' In fine condition, with several small repairs to fold separations along left edge, scattered light toning and light show through from docketing on reverse.
