Description

Handwritten endorsement on the reverse of a two page legal document, 7.75 x 12.5, dated October 17, 1810 in which Van Buren records a will freeing a slave. The will is issued in the name of John Muller of Chatham, New York in which he passes his estate to his wife Hannah and family, with an exception noted 'and alse Excepting my Negro man Philip...I order that after my decease my Negro Philip have his Freedom and Liberty.' On the reverse, Van Buren writes 'October 17, 1810 found by the testimony of John W. Dunlap and Wm. Benj. and all the executees qualifyed [sic] - M. V. Buren.' In very good condition, with scattered toning and soiling, light spotting and a few minor fold separations. RRAuction COA.
