Description

S.L. Clemens Signed Handwritten Letter

American author of such classics as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. The letter likely concerns one of the many, often ill-conceived business ventures into which Clemens entered during this period, and which were to add to the financial woes that plagued him until his death. ALS signed 'S. L. Clemens,' one page, 5.5 x 9, Elmira, N.Y., September 10, 1886. Clemens writes, in part: 'Dear Madam, I do not want to take practical part in the Management of business, but I will with pleasure send your letter to the New York office, whence it will be answered.' Boldly signed, 'Truly yours, S.L. Clemens.' A great example, ideal for framing. In fine condition, with scattered overall light creasing, a couple of small tears to top edge. RRAuction COA.
