An original unsigned handwritten poem and sketches by Stuart Sutcliffe on two 4.5 x 7.5 off-white lined sheets removed from one of his sketchbooks submitted as an applicant for admission to the Royal College of Art, which was the property of the Sutcliffe estate and was sold at Bonhams auction in July 2003. Eighteen lines in Sutcliffe's hand, the poem is untitled and reads in part, 'It comes, it goes, it fades but, No excuse is proffered. O. for this myth which captures Mankind under some ghoulish spell, who knows what fruitless ventures.' Reverse of the poetry page bears two stick figure sketches. Second page featured several ink doodles and sketches, with reverse having a spider sketch and a hangman sketch featuring a stylized signature. In fine condition, with some light toning to both pages. COA Roger Epperson and RRAuction COA.
