Description

Large Gagarin photo, signed twice, less than four months after his flight

Soviet Air force major, Gagarin was the first human to fly in space and orbit the earth in April 1961. He was killed in a plane crash in 1968. Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo of Gagarin in his dress whites, signed in ballpoint and dated 'August 6, 1961,' less than four months after his historic flight. Small note under image states that photo was possibly done at the island of Kurasao. Photo is still mostly affixed to a 10 x 13 heavy stock album page (and has also been signed on the back, although the mounting makes this inobvious), with Russian notations making reference to a 1961 trip to Cuba, Brazil and Canada. In fine condition, with a couple of light surface marks and trivial edge rippling from adhesive on reverse. RRAuction COA.
