ALS, three sides of two adjoined pages, 8 x 10, December 19, 1838. Letter to Edward Harris of Paris. In part, 'Commencing my arrangement of my birds...The box will be taken as far as London by Victor [Audubon's son]...But who knows of it is not left yet...for you and I to shoot a pair of Nule Nulete birds at the nest and after having satisfactorily examined its habits, its eggs or its young. Bonaparte, between you and I is exceedingly ignorant as regards our birds...and I forgive him as I do all others who have or try to injure me...Rev. John Bachman wrote to me that he had...Victor's copy of Birds Of America...Victor will remain 10 days in London...should you per chance deliver a specimen of the Bird of Wallington of Paris...send it to me on loan to enable me to envision it...It is a distinct species...what will probably surprise you more, the S. Agilis of the fam. Authum is also perfectly distinct from either...ask Imdian whether he recollects the specimen on eagle...I think Imdian will be pleased with the anatomy of our bird.'
