“We get back to St. Louis on Sunday, and that ends the campaign, of which I have by this time become extremely tired.”

ALS, one page both sides, 8 x 10, October 27, 1874. Letter to his wife Julia from the Steamer Elliot. In part, 'We are now enroute to St. Genevieve...I have a very severe cold...We get back to St. Louis on Sunday, and that ends the campaign, of which I have by this time become extremely tired. I am glad the time is not far distant when I shall once more have you with me.' He also adds a postscript on the reverse, signing 'E. F.' Letter is affixed by its left edge to a larger sheet. In very good condition, with paper loss to top portion of letter, affecting a single line on both sides and light creasing. RRAuction COA.
