“I had your letter too late: only on my reaching Guadalajara yesterday. I was in Los Angeles for three weeks & should have been glad to meet you. Now it will have to be some other time & place.”

English novelist, author of Lady Chatterley's Lover, Women in Love, etc. ALS, one page, 5 x 8, October 18, 1923. Lawrence writes from Guadalajara to a friend. In full, 'I had your letter too late: only on my reaching Guadalajara yesterday. I was in Los Angeles for three weeks and should have been glad to meet you. Now it will have to be some other time and place. And anyhow Murray will send me the Adelphi, so I shall see your exits - 'They have their exits and their entrances' - The exits come first, apparently. We're all filing out of the show.'
