Description

Sarah Polk

She accompanied her husband to Washington whenever she could, and they soon won a place in its most select social circles. Constantly--but privately--Sarah was helping him with his speeches, copying his correspondence and giving him advice. ALS signed 'Mrs. James K. Polk,' one lightly-lined page, 5 x 7.5, June 11, 1857. Letter to a collector. In part, 'I will take pleasure to send you an autographed letter of my lamented husband, as soon as I can select one suitable. The calls on me for autographs has been so numerous, that I now find it difficult to furnish them.' In fine condition, with light overall toning, some mild creasing and text a bit light, but completely legible. COA John Reznikoff/University Archives and RRAuction COA.
