President Henri Christophe sends troops to fight the insurgents

King of Haiti. After purchasing his freedom from slavery, he played a prominent part in the insurrection against the French and the rising of 1803. Appointed president of Haiti in 1807, after the ensuing civil war, he was crowned King in 1812. Under his rule the country prospered, but his cruelty led to another insurrection. After being deserted by his troops, he shot himself in 1820. DS in untranslated French, one page both sides, 7.5 x 9.75, Christophe's personal stationery, July 30, 1808. Document written in another hand to Lieutenant-General Paul Romain, notifying him of the position of General Brave, instructing him to send 100 men to that position to assist him in cutting the supply lines of insurgents. In fine condition, with some fair soiling, one small hole, one vertical and three horizontal folds, two through the bold signature. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
