Description

Raeder writes from Nuremberg

Commander in Chief of the Navy, 1937, although not a devoted Nazi. Made Grand Admiral in 1939, and served until military differences forced Hitler to retire him in 1943. Convicted at Nuremberg and sentenced to life imprisonment, released in 1955 due to poor health and died in 1960. ALS in German, signed 'E, Raeder,' on a Prisoner Of War postcard, 5.5 x 3.5, February 16, 1946. Letter to Reverand Harmenau. In part, 'Hoping for end of trial about May. Do not believe the lies in the press. I am healthy and in good spirits. Am only concerned about my wife of whom I have not heard any news since December. Please reply by writing in Latin script or print - because of the censorship.' In fine condition. RRAuction COA.
