DS signed 'Dean Torrence.' The duo had their first big hit with Surf City which spent two weeks at number one in 1963. They had another hit with Dead Man's Curve. The song proved to be tragically prophetic when on April 16, 1966 Jan struck a parked car and due to his injuries spent months in a coma. He survived, but suffered permanent brain damage.
