Description

Eminent American senator and statesman (1813-1861), dubbed the 'Little Giant,' perhaps best remembered for his role in the Lincoln-Douglas debates during the 1858 campaign for the Senate race in Illinois. Third-person ADS, signed within the text, "S. A. Douglas," one page, 8 x 9.25, filed November 4, 1835. Handwritten legal document by Stephen A. Douglas in the case of "People vs. Murray McConnell," in part: "This day came the people by S. A. Douglas their attorney and say that the said scire facias and the matter and things there in contained are sufficient in law to enable them to have and maintain their aforesaid action thereof." Signed at the conclusion by a clerk on Douglas's behalf. In fine condition, with paper loss to the top and edge splits to folds.
