Hardcover autograph album from the collection of noted journalist Noah Brooks, containing over 40 letters and signatures of politicians, authors, Civil War officers, and other notables. The book, 10 x 13, contains the following:

Hazen, Joseph Henry, Henry Irving, A. W. Longfellow, Samuel Longfellow, W. P. P. Longfellow, Benson Lossing, Brander Matthews, Frank W. Nye, T. B. Reed, Whitelaw Reid, William S. Rosecrans, Carl Schurz (2), Augustus St. Gaudens, E. C. Stedman (3), R. H. Stoddard, George Tickner, C. D. Warner, John Greenleaf Whittier, and William Winter (3).

Signatures: Charles Francis Adams, Hull Adams, Joseph H. Adams, James Blaine, William E. Chandler, Schuyler Colfax, John Collough, George Evans, Hannibal Hamlin, John Hay, Bronson Howard, T. L. James, Robert Todd Lincoln, John Lord, Anson Morrill, and Samuel Wells.

Book rates in very good condition, with several loose pages, several removed pages, and separations and wear to the covers and spine. Signatures rate overall fine, with most permanently affixed to the pages.

Originally from the collection of Noah Brooks. Brooks was a journalist and editor who worked for newspapers in Sacramento, San Francisco, Newark, and New York, and authored a major biography of Abraham Lincoln based on close personal observation. Brooks was also set to be appointed Lincoln's private secretary but that was aborted after his assassination.
