Scarce rivet-bound copy of the softcover book ‘From Peenemunde to Outer Space: Commemorating the Fiftieth Birthday of Wernher von Braun: March 23, 1962, Edited by Ernst Stuhlinger, Frederick I. Ordway III, Jerry C. McCall, and George C. Bucher,’ 8 x 10.5, 853 pages, printed at NASA’s MSFC in Huntsville, Alabama, in 1962, and issued as one of approximately 200 copies presented to attendees of von Braun’s 50th birthday celebration held in the Officers Club at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. The book contains numerous papers written by many of von Braun's peers and associates from his days at Peenemunde, Fort Bliss, and the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, which includes notable figures like Kurt Debus, Walter Dornberger, Hermann Oberth, Eugen Sanger, and William Pickering. The front cover of the book bears the ownership stamp of “M. B. Ames, Jr.,” whose name is also present on a ‘NASA Headquarters Routing Slip’ stapled to the inside front cover, issued by Joseph E. Hall on June 27, 1962. Milton B. Ames, Jr. was the director of space vehicles at NASA HQ in Washington DC during the early 1960s. In fine condition, with light wear to covers, including staples from routing slip.
