Description

American aviation pioneer (1879–1912) who made the first transcontinental airplane flight across the United States from September 17, 1911, to November 5, 1911, with dozens of stops, both intentional and accidental. He was killed in a crash just a few months later while making an exhibition flight over Long Beach, California. Three original 3.5 x 5.5 real photo postcards of Calbraith Perry Rodgers: two standing portraits of the pioneering aviator, one alone and one with two other men alongside him (names penciled on the reverse along with the date, "Nov. 11/11"); and one of his wrecked aeroplane, named the Vin Fiz, a Wright Model EX, idenitifed on the reverse in pencil: "Vin-Fiz wrecked near Salamanca, NY." This was but one of his several mishaps as he crossed the county in his 1911 transcontinental flight. In overall fine condition, with some light silvering.
