Guerra, in full: "The Chamizal which once separated two proud nations—Mexico and the United States—now unites them. Because I share the deep hopes of the Mexican American community for a better future, I thought you might like to have from me a little remembrance this special medallion marking the Chamizal agreement. May it serve to remind us all that equality, justice and opportunity are the goals of your government." In fine condition, with two extra mailing folds.
The Chamizal Agreement, formally proclaimed in 1967, was a treaty between the United States and Mexico resolving a century-long boundary dispute caused by shifts in the Rio Grande. It involved the transfer of 437 acres of disputed territory to Mexico and 193 acres to the United States. The agreement symbolized improved relations and cooperation between the two nations.
