Civil War–dated autograph endorsement signed as president, "Judge Advocate General please report on this case, A. Lincoln,” on an off-white 3.25 x 2.25 slip clipped from a document, dated in Lincoln's hand, February 22, 1865. Mounted, matted, and framed to an overall size of 8 x 7. In fine condition. During this period, Joseph Holt was the Judge Advocate General of the United States Army; after Lincoln's assassination—a mere seven weeks later—Holt played a leading role in the prosecution of the conspirators.
