Description

One of the famed Ringling brothers (1866–1936) who merged the Barnum & Bailey Circus with their own Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows to create a virtual monopoly of traveling circuses. ALS, three pages, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, October 20, 1922. Handwritten letter to Mrs. C. C. Wilson, in part: "I have been out west for about two months and found to much to attend to on my return that did not get around to answering you…In regard to your Sarasota stock I would not be interested in buying it. The figure you mention as the surplus of the company is absurd and it could not possibly be more than a fraction of that amount. I am unable to give you the exact figure as you well know I never paid any attention to the Sarasota Co. as Charlie Wilson was President of the Company and handled it entirely until he was succeeded by Mr. Frank L. Ketch who is still President. I have never received a penny in dividends from this company. You state your friend in Chicago has offered to purchase your stock. I urge you to sell to him by all means especially if you can get anything near the price you say he will pay…I know nothing whatever about Evanston property and for that reason I suggested that you consult with Charles Ringling." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Ringling's hand.
