Description

Partly-printed DS, signed “W. McKinley,” one page, 14.25 x 9, May 12, 1894. A "Certificate of Indebtedness," certifying that "the State of Ohio is indebted to James Espy, or assigns, in the sum of One Thousand Dollars," redeemable on July 1, 1896, at a rate of three percent. Signed at the conclusion in ink by Governor William McKinley, and countersigned by Secretary of State Samuel E. Taylor and Auditor E. W. Poe. Archivally double-matted and framed under museum glass with a portrait, plaque, and an original Series 1934 $500 Federal Reserve note featuring William McKinley to an overall size of 28.5 x 17.5. In very good to fine condition, with creasing and a tape-repaired tear to the $500 bill.
