Vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 head-and-shoulders photo of MacArthur in uniform, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, "To Henry Taylor—with warm regard—Douglas MacArthur, Tokyo—1949.” In very good to fine condition, with tack holes to corners and MacArthur's autograph a few shades light.
After WWII, MacArthur's headquarters were located in Tokyo, where he helped Japan rebuild itself following the devastation of war; overseeing this redevelopment, MacArthur was effectively the interim leader of Japan from 1945 until 1948. The recipient of this signed photograph, Henry J. Taylor (1902–1984), was an author, economist, and radio broadcaster who served as United States Ambassador to Switzerland from 1957 to 1961.
