Career United States Army officer (1823–1906) who served in the Mexican–American War and Civil War, commanding at the Battle of Chickamauga. Ink signature, "Th: J. Wood,” on an off-white 2.25 x .5 slip affixed to a slightly larger card, annotated in another hand: "Arkansas Aug. 1, 1864, Maj. Genl. Vols." Matted with a portrait to an overall size of 8.25 x 10.75. In very good to fine condition, with some light staining, and the downstrokes added in an unknown hand.
