Description

“I think Scribner's have done a grand publishing job”—Lindbergh on his soon-to-be-released autobiography, The Spirit of St. Louis

TLS signed “Charles A. Lindbergh,” one page, 8.5 x 11, August 13, 1953. Addressed from his seaside cottage on Scotts Cove in Darien, Connecticut, a letter to Dr. Shipherd, in full: “Seven weeks in Europe, preceded by two weeks in South America, in connection with Pan American Airways activities, accounts for this very late reply to your letter. I am sorry to have taken such a long time in returning the stamps. I am greatly pleased with the appearance of the ‘Spirit of St. Louis.’ I think Scribner's have done a grand publishing job. Please give my best wishes to Mrs. Shipherd. I shall always remember her hospitality, and yours, during my visit to your home at Southold.” In fine condition, with some light creasing. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA. The Spirit of St. Louis, Lindbergh’s autobiographical account of the events leading up to and including his 1927 solo trans-Atlantic flight in his custom-built, single-engine, single-seat monoplane, was published by Charles Scribner's Sons on September 14, 1953. It won the Pulitzer Prize the following year in 1954.
