Description

American general in the Revolutionary War and a delegate in the Continental Congress (1740-1795) who served as governor of New Hampshire. He is best remembered for commanding the Sullivan Expedition in 1779, a scorched earth campaign against the Iroquois towns that had taken up arms against the American revolutionaries. ALS signed “Jno. Sullivan,” one page, 7.5 x 11.5, September 11, 1785. Handwritten letter to George Thatcher, in part: "Our Court of Sessions in the Country of Rockingham will sit at Exeter for said Country on the second Tuesday of November next…I take the Liberty of inclosing you an Exn. against Colo. Phinney which beg you will put in the hands of a Sheriff who will see it put in execution in the strict sense of the word." In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
