Description

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Delaware (1733-1798). Manuscript DS, signed “Geo: Read,” one page, 8.25 x 4.25, June 26, 1784. Pay order issued by "John Baning, Speaker," to the "Treasurer of the Delaware State," in part: "Please to pay to George Read Esquire or Order the sum of Eleven pounds out of the publick money in your hands." Endorsed on the reverse by Read, certifying that he has received said funds from Samuel Patterson, the first treasurer of the state of Delaware. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from University Archives.
