American Revolutionary leader from New York (1733–1797) who was a signatory of the Continental Association and the Articles of Confederation. Among his many posts, Duane served as a delegate to the Second Continental Congress and the Congress of the Confederation, as a New York state senator, the 44th Mayor of New York City, and the 1st post-colonial Mayor of New York City. Manuscript DS, signed “Jas. Duane,” one page, 8 x 4.25, January 16, 1788. Pay order issued to the treasurer of New York, in part: "Pursuant to an order of the Common Council of this Day (pay out of the Watch Money) to Mr. Joseph Pierson the sum of twenty two Pounds on account towards the erection of Watch Boxes." Signed at the conclusion in ink by James Duane as mayor. In fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.
