Description

Scarce blue ticket to the "Marriage of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales with The Lady Diana Spencer" at St. Paul's Cathedral on July 29, 1981, measuring 5 x 4, issued to "Mr. M. T. Baker" for admission to "Nave South - D." The ticket bears the printed facsimile signatures of Lord Chamberlain Maclean and Dean Alan Webster. The reverse is numbered "No. 058" and provides instructions for attendance: "Doors to the Cathedral open at 9.00 a.m. Guests must be in their seats by 10.00 a.m. At the end of the Service the Congregation is requested to remain in their seats until directed by Ushers." Encapsulated and graded by PSA as "FULL VG-EX 4" (POP 5).

Accompanied by an uncommon official ‘Order of Service’ program for the royal wedding of Princess Diana and Prince Charles, 20 pages, 8 x 11.25, listing the various music, hymns, and speeches, as well as transcripts of the vows made by the bride and groom; Diana insisted in advance that the word ‘obey’ not be included, a tradition that continues to this day. During the vows, Diana famously spoke Charles’ two middle names, “Philip” and Arthur,” in the wrong order. Printed by Harrison & Sons of London. In very good to fine condition, with scattered foxing to the wrappers.

After a mere six months of dating, Diana and Charles announced their engagement on February 24, 1981. The fabled royal wedding took place at St. Paul’s Cathedral on July 29, 1981, before an invited congregation of 3,500 and an estimated worldwide television audience of 750 million.
