"In consideration of Military Service," President James Madison grants 50 acres of land to "a Soldier for the War"

Partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 12 x 15.5, May 6, 1816. Desirable military land grant, in part: "In consideration of Military Service, performed by William Thorp, a Soldier for the War, to the United States, in the Virginia Line on Continental Establishment…There is granted, by the United States, unto…assignees…a certain Tract of Land containing Fifty acres situate between the Little Miami and Sciota rivers, north west of the river Ohio.” Signed at the conclusion by President James Madison and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office Josiah Meigs. The lower left retains the original off-white paper seal. In fine condition.
