Description

Uncommon lot of six invitations and one program for events related to the London 1908 Olympics, the majority of which were sent to Felix Graf of Austria, a member of the London 1908 Honorary Committee who later served as an international jury member for the Committee for Swimming, Diving, and Water Polo at the 1912 Stockholm Games. The items, by date, include:

- Invitation from Lord Desbourgh and the Members of the British Olympic Council for a “Reception of the Athletes taking part in the Olympic Games,” to be held at the Grafton Galleries on July 11, 1908.

- Program for a “Reception of the International Olympic Committee, the British Olympic Council, and the Athletes and Officials taking part in the Olympic Games,” to be held at the Mansion House in London on July 13, 1908.

- Invitation from the Amateur Swimming Association for a banquet held “in honour of Swimmers attending the Olympic Games” at The King’s Hall, Holborn Restaurant on July 18, 1908.

- Invitation from the “Mayors of Berks, Bucks & Oxon” to meet “The Olympic Competitors” at a “Municipal Reception” held in the Town Hall, Henley-on-Thames on July 24, 1908

- Invitation from Lord and Lady Michelham to “Meet the Competitors and Officials of the Olympic Games” at a Garden Party at Strawberry Hill on July 26, 1908

- Invitation from the committee and members of the “Phyllis Court Club, Olympic Regatta,” to attend a luncheon on July 27, 1908

- Invitation from George A. Kessler to meet “Lord Desborough, The Joint Committee, and The Victorious Competitors,” at a banquet at New York Lodge, Bourne End, on August 1, 1908; includes a transportation card for a “Private Special Train” to Bourne End.
