Rare limited edition gold-finish IOC medal issued to members during the COVID outbreak of 2020, numbered 108/500, 58 gm, 51 mm in diameter, with the front bearing an embossed portrait of IOC co-founder Pierre de Coubertin between the Olympic rings and text, “Comite International Olympique,” and the reverse featuring raised Olympics rings, text, and hashtags: “International Olympic Committee, #StayActive, #StayStrong, #StayHealthy.” The edge is engraved with the edition number. Includes its handsome lacquered wooden presentation case, the top of which bears silver Olympics rings and the blue felt tip interior featuring the IOC logo, the facsimile signature of IOC President Thomas Bach, with a quote from Bach below: “As a consequence of the coronavirus crisis we need more solidarity within and between societies.”
Although unconfirmed, it’s speculated that this medal was distributed to members in honor of the 136th IOC Session, which was attended virtually on July 17, 2020. It was during this session that the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics to 2021 was approved.
