Scarce commemorative plaque from the Mayors' Banquet of 1900, held during the historic Parisian Olympics in the Tuileries Gardens in Paris, France, on September 22, 1900. Bronze, 74 gm, 47 mm x 64 mm, by Frederic Vernon, Paris. The front features designs of a flag with a lictor's bundle and oak and laurel branches above a cartouche featuring a tablet with the name of a French mayor: “L. N. Garnier, Charny.” The right side is engraved with French text (translated): “Tuileries Banquet offered to the Mayors of France under the Presidency of Mr. Émile Loubet, President of the Republic, and Mr. Waldeck Rousseau, President of the Council, Paris, 22 Sept. 1900.” The reverse bears an embossed design of two female allegories, one representing the Republic in the guise of Marianne and the other the City of Paris, carrying libations to the banquet. The bottom edge is stamped “Bronze.”
