Unused golfing scorecard booklet from the Houvenkopf Country Club of Suffern, New York, no date [May 1943], measuring 8.5 x 3.25 unfolded, signed nicely on the inside in graphite by Babe Ruth. In fine condition, with a block of light toning from a prior display. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.

Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the original recipient: “As boys growing up in Hillburn, N.Y., we made money by carrying golf bags for golfers at the local golf course in Suffern, N.Y., the ‘Houvenkopf Country Club,’ also called ‘Out of Bounds,’ was located on the New York, New Jersey border…The year was 1943, the month of May, myself and [my] boyhood pal Jim ‘Pit’…were waiting by the caddy shack to carry golf bags when ‘Pit’ noticed two men getting out of their car, one was using a cane to walk. Pit said to me in a very excited voice; ‘Hap, look, that’s Babe Ruth.’ We both ran to the car, approaching the two men saying, ‘Mr. Ruth, do you need a caddy?’ He answered, ‘No, boys, not today. I’m not walking so well.’ We then gave Mr. Ruth our golf score cards, which he put on the hood of the car and signed…The Houvenkopf was about 30 miles northwest of N.Y. City, Babe came there to relax and have a few drinks.”
