Pit said to me in a very excited voice; ‘Hap, look, that’s Babe Ruth.’ We both ran to the car, approaching the two men saying, ‘Mr. Ruth, do you need a caddy?’ He answered, ‘No, boys, not today. I’m not walking so well.’ We then gave Mr. Ruth our golf score cards, which he put on the hood of the car and signed…The Houvenkopf was about 30 miles northwest of N.Y. City, Babe came there to relax and have a few drinks.”
