A beleaguered Sam Houston writes to an old friend: "My disease has been toothache, face ache, & headache"

LS, one page, 7.75 x 10, February 18, 1855. Letter to Nicholas Dean, in part: "The greenest spots on memorys' waste are my early friendships. Yours I treasured among the number. For three days I have been ill and am prostrate now. I hope to be up in a few days. My disease has been toothache, face ache, & headache. I have had my tooth extracted & hope to get repose tonight. I propose to be at the 'Metropolitan' on the night of the 19th inst. when it will give me great pleasure to shake your honest hand." In very good to fine condition, with complete separation across the central horizontal fold. Encapsulated in a PSA/DNA authentication holder.
