World War I-dated partly-printed DS as president, one page, 18 x 15, August 19, 1915. President Wilson appoints William H. Tschappat as a "Lieutenant-Colonel in the Ordnance Department in the service of the United States." Signed at the conclusion by Woodrow Wilson, and countersigned by Acting Secretary of War Henry Breckinridge. The blue War Office seal remains affixed to the lower left. Archivally double-matted and framed with two plaques and a portrait to an overall size of 33.5 x 21.5. In fine condition, with light creasing to the side edges. Major General William H. Tschappat (1874–1955) was a career officer in the United States Army and served as the 14th Chief of Ordnance for the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps.
