ALS, one page, 5.5 x 8.5, May 29, 1889. Handwritten letter to Mrs. Byrum, in part: "I am anxious to settle the question as to the scout who took Gen. Sheridan the letter from 'the Loyal Girl of Winchester.' Please give me his full name—which Regiment, Company, &c &c he belonged to—where he entered the service—in short all facts about him. Can he describe the exact place where the colored men lived?" In fine condition, with a small crease to the lower right corner.
