LS signed “J. A. Garfield,” one page, 5 x 8, June 26, 1880. Letter to Henry J. Johnson in Cumberland, Maryland, sent following his nomination as the Republican candidate for president. In full: "Your telegram of the 8th inst. was found among the first that reached me and though I have been compelled to delay its acknowledgment so long, I thank you none the less heartily for its generosity and for my pleasant memories of Cumberland." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Garfield had just been nominated as the Republican candidate for president on June 8th at the RNC in Chicago.
